Exciting news from our small corner of the internet: Evan Urquhart, the founder of Assigned Media, will head to MIT next fall as a member of the 2024-2025 class for the Knight Science Journalism Fellowship.

The internationally recognized KSJ Fellowship boasts a 41-year history during which it has been host to hundreds of mid-career journalists, including representatives of the most prestigious news organizations in the world. Evan’s incoming class includes journalists from the Canadian Broadcasting Company, the Associated Press, Haaretz, among others. Evan'’s inclusion in the incoming KSJ class underscores the urgency and impact of Assigned Media as a force for honest science reporting on a topic, transgender issues, that has been rife with misinformation and misleading, biased reporting.

For our regular readers, we want to underscore that Assigned Media will continue as a source of timely, accurate, necessary reporting on trans issues. Arrangements are being made so that the community of friends and freelancers that has grown up around Assigned will be empowered to ensure Assigned’s continued thriving for the nine-month fellowship period. In August, when the fellowship commences, Evan will step back from daily writing to pursue an in-depth reported project relating to the science of gender-affirming treatments. We’ll be sharing much more about the amazing trans journalists who will be writing and steering the site during that time in the months between now and August.

One thing we can’t quite sugar coat is that the good people who will be tasked with keeping Assigned going have human bodies that need food, clothing, and shelter. These folks need and deserve to be paid well, and that’s only possible with the donations of our amazing readers. So, if you can, please donate generously to Assigned Media. Help show the world that high-quality, urgent journalism by, for, and about the trans community deserves to flourish.

Here’s the link to our support page, and thank you!
