Dylan Mulvaney Describes the Human Consequences of Extremism

“What transpired from that video was more bullying and transphobia than I could have ever imagined.” Trans woman TikTok star describes the hate-campaign that resulted after Bud Light sponsorship.

Dylan Mulvaney today posted a TikTok video to her channel addressing the unhinged conservative meltdown over a brief Bud Light sponsorship video posted to Instagram on April 1st that featured a custom can of Bud Light sent by the company to commemorate her first year of transition. (If you’re not already more than familiar with the backlack, the short version is Mulvaney literally did not do anything wrong here, beyond being a trans woman.) In the name of anti-trans hatred, and nothing else, conservatives sent bomb threats to bottling plants and started a boycott that has tanked sales and impacted Anheiser-Busch’s stock price. The company, in turn, has cowered and hedged, which only seems to have further emboldened the extremists.

“What transpired from that video was more bullying and transphobia than I could have ever imagined,” Mulvaney explained, adding that “the brand” (Bud Light) never reached out to her as she faced unrelenting weeks, then months, of transphobic harassment. “I’ve been scared to leave my house. I’ve been ridiculed in public. I’ve been followed. And I have felt a lonliness that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.”

Mulvaney connected the harassment she’s faced with the experiences of other trans people, and called for her fans to support every trans person and to donate to the Transgender Law Center.
