FL: County Employee Fired for Christian Views? Anything’s Possible.

via Steve Warren, writing for Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), a Christian right media organization founded by Pat Robertson

Christian Broadcasting Network, a legacy media organization serving the Christian right, has the story of a county employee who, they claim, was fired for writing an op-ed about his Christian views, on his own time, and for an “obscure publication.” According to CBN, as soon as his employers in Miami-Dade County, FL became aware of the op-ed, John Labriola was immediately suspended for three days, without pay, and ordered to do a diversity training. Labriola refused, at which point he was fired by the county.

What was the name and nature of the “obscure publication” in question? The CBC doesn’t say. What exact words or phrases did Labriola use, in this op-ed that he wrote on his own private time? The CBC has no quotes or passages from the op-ed, so that isn’t clear either. The CBC does link to the 28-page lawsuit filed by Labriola, so some of those details could be inside it. (Regrettably, time does not permit us to read a 28-page lawsuit at this moment. So, we’ve linked to it in case our readers would like a crack at it. If answers to our questions, or any other important details about the case emerge, we will update this page to reflect them.
